Open a folder of Markdown. Get a workspace.
MD Reader renders diagrams, maths and runnable code, reads scanned pages, and — with Premium — answers questions from your notes, builds flashcards and timed tests, photographs handwriting into Markdown, and exports to PDF, Word, slides and EPUB. All from a folder on your disk: nothing uploads unless you turn on cloud sync.
What the free app does
Opens a folder, not a library
Point it at a directory of .md files. No import, no
proprietary vault format, no copy of your notes in someone's database.
Renders the hard parts
Mermaid diagrams, KaTeX maths, syntax-highlighted code, charts and tables — rendered locally, including offline.
Runs code in the document
Fenced blocks execute in a sandboxed frame, so a runnable note stays a note rather than becoming a project.
Reads scanned pages
OCR runs on your own hardware. An image of a page becomes text without it leaving the machine.
Works with no account
The app never asks you to sign in. Every feature on this list is free, with no account — an account exists only to buy the optional cloud subscription.
Bring your own AI key (BYOK)
Use an Anthropic, OpenAI or Gemini key of your own and pay your provider directly. We never see the traffic.
Every platform, one codebase
Every build comes from the same tagged commit. Desktop installers are signed; the mobile apps come from their stores.

Questions
Where are my files?
Where you left them. The app reads the folder you choose; it does not copy your notes anywhere unless you turn on cloud storage.
Is there a web version?
No. MD Reader is a desktop and mobile application. This site sells and distributes it — it does not run it.
Can I cancel?
Yes. A subscription bought here is a fixed term that simply ends; there is no auto-renewal to cancel and no charge after it lapses. If you want to stop early, we refund the unused days pro rata — see Terms & refunds.
I bought it in the app.
Then it is managed by Google Play or Apple. Sign in with the same account here and the subscription shows up either way.
