Why MD Reader exists

Managing and reading technical Markdown notes shouldn't be complicated — and it shouldn't require a heavyweight suite, a subscription, or a browser tab farm.

Like many developers and students, I found myself constantly juggling notes across different tools. I didn't want to rely on heavy, paid word processors, and simple web docs lacked the flexibility and offline access I needed.

The wall came when I started using AI to generate study and reference notes in Markdown. There wasn't a clean, flexible reader that worked smoothly on both mobile and desktop, let me choose my own themes and typography, and rendered genuinely technical content — architecture diagrams, mathematical formulas, linked files — properly. Every time I wanted to improve or cross-check a note with AI, I was copy-pasting between apps.

So I built MD Reader.

What it became

• A reader built for technical notes. Mermaid architecture diagrams and flowcharts, mathematical formulas, syntax highlighting, and links between files render natively — the things AI-generated and hand-written engineering notes are actually made of.
• Yours to shape. Themes, colors and typography built for your eyes, on every platform — desktop and mobile, from one codebase, with your files staying on your own machine.
• AI where the notes live. Refine, verify and expand a note in place instead of round-tripping through another app — with your own API key, or through an optional subscription. The reader itself needs neither.
• Zero friction, zero lock-in. Plain .md files on local disk, no upload step, no account required. Everything the reader does is free, forever.
